Fitness Cycling: Sample Routes

Whether you describe yourself as a fitness, recreational, leisure, intermediate, fair weather cyclist, this page applies to those of you who are capable of riding 50 miles (80km). We have a substantial number of routes of 40 to 50 miles most of which you can extend if you find you are going well.

St.Nazaire to Vinay 60km (40 miles) Flat

This is a popular ride along the Isere valley to the North of St.Nazaire which meanders through shady orchards of walnut trees. There are great views of the Vercors and a small village dating back to medieval times is worth a minor detour. At Vinay there's a fantastic lunchstop, followed by an easy route back.

St.Nazaire to Chabeuil 60km (40 miles) Flatish

This circuit provides excellent views down the Rhone Valley and over to the Ardeche. At Chabeuil there's an excellent little restaurant and a replica of Tintin's space rocket can be seen on one of the roundabouts. There are a few alternative ways back; this shows the return trip on the main road, which has a superb cycle lane and not much traffic.
