Gastrobiking holidays are centre based so you can get to know the local area and don't have all the hassle of packing and unpacking everyday. If you want to spend some time off the bike there's plenty for you to do. Accommodation is either at The Priory or at the Hotel Rome.
The Priory is conveniently located opposite the village bakery and is the social hub of our holidays. Parts of the building are over 500 years old and in the past it has served as a priory, the village 'Mairie' (the mayors offices) and possibly an illegal girls school.
We have double/twin and single rooms as well as a shady inner courtyard and a south facing garden. In the lounge we have a vast collection of cycling books, magazines and Tour de France videos so you can see the pros riding effortlessly up the climbs of the Vercors and Alpe d'Huez.
Perhaps the most important room for Gastrobikers is the kitchen with its fridge full of cool drinks to accompany your post ride cakes. If you want to make a quick snack or a hot drink at any time, you can.
We have a large bike room with secure bike storage and maintenance facilities. There's somewhere to clean your bike should it get covered in cake crumbs and a washing machine to wash the ice-cream from your cycling tops.
The atmosphere is very laid back so that you soon feel away from it all. And when they're not chasing each other round the garden, Fruskies and Gateau, the two resident cats, will make you feel at home.
The Hotel Rome is across the road from the Priory. The en-suite rooms are clean and most have a view over the lake and aqueduct. Of course, guests who stay at the hotel have full use of the facilities at the Priory.
Breakfasts are usually at the Priory. We serve a variety of cereals and home made muesli, along with warm fresh bread and croissants from the village bakery. Just what you need for a day on the bike.
In the evening we either eat in local restaurants or here at the Priory. The meals we serve are well balanced and we use good quality fresh local produce as much as possible. We cater for vegetarians and other dietary preferences. For your post ride snack, you're spoilt for choice: a stagger across the road for a Religieuse or a Chocolate Eclair or a piece of home made apple and walnut cake at the Priory. Just don't be too quick to jump on the scales when you get home.
